I hate flies, and I always have. I probably always will. And I’d love to be able to tell you that I know all the secrets of how to get rid of flies, but I don’t. So you’ll have to settle for this handful of how to control flies tips.

Clean up your act. Flies are attracted to nastiness, so if you want to control the number of flies in your environment, then start with cleaning it up. That means mopping the floors, scrubbing the toilets, and washing the dishes. Don’t have time? Hire a maid, or stop complaining about flies.

Clean it up outside too. The inside of your home can be spotless, but if there’s trash in the driveway and dog poo in the yard, you’re still going to have flies. (Let’s face it. If we’re talking about the outdoors, you’re going to have some flies anyway. But why increase the amount?)

Close the doors and windows. If you leave the doors open, flies will come in. Same way with your windows. Some people like fresh air, and they use screen doors and windows. That’s cool, but if you don’t want flies getting in, then check to make sure the screens don’t have big holes in them.

Use tools. Using tools is one of the things that separates us from animals. So buy a flyswatter or two. Buy bug spray. Get flypaper. Visit your local Home Depot or Loews and ask them what their best products are for controlling flies.

It’s a dirty world. And flies are everywhere. But don’t give up; you can control the number of flies in your environment by taking some simple and intelligent action.
