Finding a Place to Breakthrough: Synthetic Wigs for my Closest Friend
July 1st, 2009 admin
We couldn’t believe the indestructible Chandra Smart, my life-long soul mate, might someday need a collection of medical wigs. Her trademark long black hair was synonymous with her personality. Have you seen her lately? The woman remains known for her trademark toss ‘n turn. Only a handful of souls think to notice that she lives confidently wearing lace wigs. You’d be surprised!
When we were young girls in Arizona, we once stole the spotlights to every dance. Then her medical hair loss took effect and her hair wouldn’t be the same. I recommended some synthetic wigs. Even so she shrugged it off. She proudly demonstrated her threadbare confidence.
Appearing at our university’s homecoming, we taunted the players until someone accidentally threw the puck (or that thing they use) at the crowd. Quick on her feet, she jumped up for it when her head scarf landed in a beer, uncovering her bald head. Like nothing happened, she lobbed it playfully into the goal. Attitude, did I mention she’s got it?
Of course, everyone has insecurities. Once at our semi-monhtly game of bridge, where she quietly told me that she would rather go bald out of bitterness. She would never look at well crafted lace front wigs, though she wanted one. Then just like that our fearless protagonist became beet pink in the face and demanded that I should think nothing more of it. I thought “oh, well.”
I couldn’t drop it. That night, I talked about taking care of this wig problem. After a long deliberation we both came to the obvious conclusion: lace front wigs for all! Wigs for the both of us, on me!
We had a ball wig shopping, floored by how natural they looked. We couldn’t believe that women’s medical wigs were so natural for a lot of people. These synthetic wigs were marvelous. I coordinated an entirely modern wardrobe around my wig. Its become an inside joke, you know. Recently she gave me a photo of us in our wigs and thanked me for reintroducing, and confessed it fosters a real positive image in her life. It’s encouraging to realize her live a happier existence. We both are.
